We’re at the time of the year where sport is experiencing a busy schedule once again, with the football season recently starting again and the aftermath of the IAAF World Athletics. Security around these events could not be more important, especially with recent month’s terror strikes in Manchester and London respectively.

While pundits from the world of Athletics will be analysing how Usain Bolt’s career ended in heartbreak after the Jamaican pulled up injured in his final race in the men’s 4x100m relay final at the World Athletics Championships, we at SGC Security Services were only too happy to be a part of the smooth and secure running of the competition.

Fives year after the thrilling London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Park took centre stage once again to provide us with some spectacular performances in World Athletics!

We helped keep the fantastic crowds safely engaged, while witnessing the likes of poor Mo Farah unable to continue his winning run on the track. Muktar Edris crossed the line to claim glory and leave Farah subsequently grabbing the silver medal to end his track career on a sad end.

Elsewhere it felt like it was a mini revival of London 2012, the crowds embracing the games spirit once again. London 2017 also saw the IAAF World Championships and the World Para Athletics Championships held in the same summer and in the same city for the first time. That means 245 events played out over 20 days of sporting drama.

During the games we supported the event by providing a number of security services and hundreds of staff deployed.

Our arsenal contained:
– Safety Management Officers (Level 4 NVQ Safety Officers)
– Response Staff
– Event Security Risk Assessments
– 24-hour National Control Centre
– Security Stewards
– Security Officers
– Car Park stewards
– CCTV staff
– Hostile Vehicle mitigation trained staff

One of the main priorities was to ensure that all of the infrastructure was in place so that the athletes and team personnel could perform at their highest levels and deliver the sort of performances that resonated so well with the public at London 2012 – in addition to this, we continued the close protection of the Athletes competing in each competition.

On behalf of SGC Security, we hope all that attended the IAAF World Championships and the World Para Athletics Championships enjoyed the experience. We’d like to thank the spectators, all staff and our main sponsors Adidas Toyota’s, Seiko and Asics. We shall see you at our next event that we’ll be covering, your safety is paramount to our service!
